The layers that make your new surface
Scroll through the steps to see each layer go on.
- UV-stable gelcoat finish
- Vinylester base coat
- Fibreglass mat + vinylester resin
- Abraded bonding surface
- Existing pool shell
Cross-section, not to scale.
Drain, brace and protect
We drain the pool, brace it if required and tarp it to protect it from sun and weather. Debris is cleared from the pool area. Your existing pool stays in place as the base.
Prepare the existing surface
We clean the surface and mechanically abrade it so the new layers have a sound profile to bond to. Cracks, voids and osmosis are repaired, and any new steps, ledges or plumbing items are built in at this stage.
Grind · wash · fill · repair · remodelLaminate the fibreglass membrane
The entire pool surface is laminated with fibreglass matting in a high-performance vinylester resin. This is the structural layer: one seamless shell with no joins.
225 g or 450 g chopped strand mat · vinylester resinBase coat
A vinylester base coat fills the fibreglass strand pattern and pre-colours the new surface. We then grind and prepare it for the finish coat.
Finish coat, clean-up and handover
A top coat in your chosen colour, made with UV-stabilising technology, gives a durable, smooth finish. We neatly finish around lights, returns, skimmer boxes and steps, clean up, remove the tarp and hand over your warranty paperwork.

Common questions
How long will my pool be out of action?
Most residential pools take about a week on site, weather permitting. Your condition report gives you the expected timeline.
Do I need to be home?
Not usually. We need access to the pool area, power and water. We'll agree the details before we start.
What's not included?
Electrical work, coping replacement and waterline tile replacement are outside our scope. We'll note them in your condition report if they need attention.
When can I refill the pool?
We'll tell you at handover. Once refilled, follow the water care advice in your warranty pack.
